Grace Hopper Celebration 2023
The world's largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists is back this September
We love the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). Firstly, it pays homage to one of the most influential women in history — period. Secondly, GHC is the world’s largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists, with attendance exceeding 30,000 virtual and in-person participants. Thirdly, we actively participate in some of the conference’s wonderful events. Fou… OK, we'll stop now!
2023 is the 21st edition of the Grace Hopper Celebration conference and it promises to be another incredible event, one that will bring people together from across the globe to enjoy sensational talks and great company.

Our NearFormers are playing an active role in Grace Hopper Celebration 2023
One of the things we like most about Grace Hopper Celebration is that we have the honour of actively participating in some of its great events. NearForm is playing a huge part in this year's conference by contributing in the following ways:
Paula Paul is Co-Chairing Open Source Day
Paula Paul (NearForm Field CTO and OpenJS Foundation Board Member) is one of the Grace Hopper Day Open Source Day (OSD) Co-Chairs. Paula will be speaking at the opening ceremonies. OSD is an all-day virtual hackathon on September 22, 2023. It gives people a chance to enhance their open source skills by collaborating with mentors on a range of topics.
Our NearFormers are part of the OSD Mentors Committee
Our very own Dee O’Callaghan (Global Head of Design and Engineering), Rachel Switzer (Solutions Architect) and Melissa Bright (Program Manager) are part of the Open Source Day (OSD) Mentors committee. These are the topics people can get involved in during the OSD hackathon:
- Linux Kernel Hacking Workshop
- Natural Language Processing using Python
- Named Entity Recognition with Digitized Museum Collections Data from Smithsonian Open Access
- Contribute to a Linux Distribution – The Smart Way
- Technical Project management with GitHub
- Explore generative models in AI with Keras
Hosting the Node.js contributors during OSD
Rafael Gonzaga (Staff Developer Experience Engineer and Node.js TSC) shares his insights in one of our core areas of expertise — Node.js. He’ll be helping people gain a greater understanding of Node.js and welcoming them into its global community.
Our cube puzzle
We don’t want to say too much about our cube puzzle, as this would ruin the surprise for the Grace Hopper Celebration attendees. What we will say is it’s an engaging QR code game that gives people a chance to play an interactive puzzle, while encouraging participants to network and make meaningful connections. Curious about what our cube puzzle is? Paula, Dee, Rachel and Melissa will be roaming GHC, so ask them about it!
We hope to see you there
We can’t wait to attend Grace Hopper Celebration 2023 and we hope to see you there. If you’d like to learn more about GHC or are looking to get your ticket for this year’s event then check out the official website .
